Petrom intends to concentrate the petrochemical business of Arpechim into a separate company. "This is part of the modernization process at Petrom and falls in line with the international trend in the industry, namely to separate the chemical operations from the refinery. This division will allow the management of the newly established company to focus on rendering this business more efficient and developed," said Jeffrey Rinker, Member of the Petrom Board.
The new company, Petrochemicals Arges, will aggregate the chemical operations and be able to produce 50,000 tons of aromatics, 200,000 tons of ethylene and 95,000 tons of propylene per year. Last year"s sales of petrochemical products totaled 393,300 tons, both in Romania and on foreign markets - Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Western European countries.
