Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu expressed his discontent with the operations of Eximbank saying that, despite massive capitalization, the bank was not using the respective funds to stimulate exports, but in the same way as an ordinary commercial bank.

Tariceanu asked Small Busines, Trade, Tourism and Liberal Professions Minister Ovidiu Silaghi to analyze Eximbank"s operations and jointly identify the right tools to support exporters. In turn, Silaghi said he would meet with Secretary of State Iuliu Winkler and Eximbank management to analyze the case and find the optimal way to support exporters.

"The increase in Eximbank"s share capital did not help exporters in any way," said Mihai Ionescu, president of the National Association of Exporters and Importers in Romania (ANEIR). He added that exporters had not been able to access a single penny of the funds added to Eximbank"s capitalization and that the money was still in the National Bank"s accounts.
