PNL Considers Initiating Parliamentary Inquiry In Hayssam Case

National Liberal Party (PNL) Deputy George Scutaru, Vice Chairman of the Defence Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, yesterday said that the MPs would discuss appointing a parliamentary inquiry panel for the Omar Hayssam Case by the end of the year.

"The MPs need to decide on appointing an inquiry panel to clarify all the details of the Omar Hayssam Case. Personally, I will ask the PNL parliamentary group to discuss the need to appoint an inquiry panel. The inquiry panel should be appointed as soon as possible, before the end of the year, in order to be able to start hearings early next year," George Scutaru stated and was quoted by NewsIn.

According to him, a first step in this respect would be to have the Defence Committee of the Chamber of Deputies hear Presidential Advisor Constantin Degeratu.

"In my opinion, hearing Degeratu should be the first step in an inquiry that the Parliament needs to have the courage to undertake. In light of the recent accusations by Prosecutor Nastasiu, President Traian Basescu should order Degeratu to appear before the Defence Committee. If he does not do so, Basescu is hiding the truth and his statement that he would declassify the case after the elections is just a groundless show-off and a lie," said Scutaru.

The Vice Chairman of the Defence Committee of the Chamber of Deputies also believes that President Traian Basescu should come forward and give a public response to the accusations voiced by former DIICOT Prosecutor Ciprian Nastasiu in relation to the Omar Hayssam Case.

"Basescu is saying that he will take steps to declassify the Hayssam Case after he is re-elected President. However, he needs to give an answer now to the accusations made by Ciprian Nastasiu.

Scutaru further stressed that President Traian Basescu should also explain the connection between politicians in his entourage, such as Elena Udrea or Theodor Stolojan, and Russian financial circles interested in influencing political and economic decisions concerning the privatization of strategic energy companies.
