The Polish cosmetics market increased from 17.7 billion PLN (4.25 billion EUR) in 2007 to 21 billion PLN (5 billion EUR) in 2008. "The increase in production led to an increase in exports, too. Thus, exports of Polish cosmetics to Romania amounted to 59.4 million EUR in 2008, whereas exports of Romanian cosmetics to Poland stood at 1.3 million EUR," Halina Golebicka, First Counsellor and Head of the Trade & Investment Promotion Section of the Polish Embassy in Romania, told BURSA.
Poland was represented by nine companies to the Cosmetics Beauty Hair Fair hosted by Romexpo. Most of them were scouting the Romanian market and looking for local distributors. According to Halina Golebicka, the Polish cosmetics industry is receiving substantial investments, focused especially on research, portfolio diversification, brand awareness and brand protection.
After Poland joined the European Union and thereby gained improved export conditions to almost the entire European continent, numerous investors were stimulated to attract substantial structural funds to develop their business and export markets. AA Kosmetyk, Eveline, Dox Cosmetik, Garnier - Poland are just some of the Polish-based cosmetics companies that committed massive investments to research & development and are now enjoying the largest returns in the country.
Referring to new investments on the already competitive Polish cosmetics market, Halina Golebicka exemplified with Eris, a company recently started by Dr. Irena Eris and the first to produce cosmetics with specific formulations for different age groups that had recently been introduced in several European countries after intense research.
The Polish delegation to the Cosmetics Beauty Hair Fair comprised Ziaja, Wats, Carlo Bossi Perfumes, Vip Lkb., Diamond Cosmetics & Femi Nails, Donegal, Alm, Elegance Cosmetics and Iza. Most of them export their products to Romania and several other European Union members (the Czech Republic, Estonia, Austria, France and Spain) as well as to Russia, Canada, Japan and China.
Halina Golebicka emphasized that the Polish investors" interest in increasing exports was also reflected by the fact that most of the said companies were represented to the fair in Bucharest by the management of the cosmetics factories in Nisko, Wroclaw, Katowice, Gdansk and Poznan.
