The National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest (UNSTPB) signed a contract worth over 29 million lei for an ambitious project to install photovoltaic systems on 56 buildings on its campuses. Financed through the Modernization Fund Program, administered by the Ministry of Energy, the project marks a significant step in the transition to renewable energy sources in higher education institutions in Romania.

The project, entitled "Assuring electricity through the installation of photovoltaic systems for self-consumption in UNSTPB buildings", aims to generate approximately 7,618 MWh of electricity annually. This will be efficiently distributed in the three campuses of the university: Regie, Noul Local and Leu. The cumulative installed power will reach 7.04 MW, ensuring 1,526 MWh/year for the Regie campus, 5,458 MWh/year for the New Local and 632 MWh/year for the Leu campus. This project will not only reduce dependence on conventional energy sources and significantly lower energy costs, but will also have a positive impact on the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. "By installing these photovoltaic systems, Politehnica Bucharest will be able to ensure a green and sustainable energy source for its daily activities," a statement issued by the university states. The students and staff of the university will benefit from better conditions in the accommodation spaces and in the lecture halls, thanks to the increase in energy efficiency and the optimization of energy consumption. At the same time, the university is strengthening its commitment to social responsibility, transforming its campuses into a model of sustainability and energy efficiency. During the contract signing ceremony, the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, and the rector of UNSTPB, Mihnea Costoiu, emphasized the importance of this project. Costoiu stated that "this financial support represents a firm commitment of the Ministry of Energy to support public institutions in the transition to renewable energy sources and to encourage the adoption of innovative solutions that contribute to reducing the impact on the environment."

Through this project, Politehnica Bucharest not only modernizes its infrastructure, but also prepares the ground for the training of future generations of engineers and specialists, who will be able to develop innovative solutions for energy challenges.
