The Fraud Department of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR) has received 34 fraud complaints concerning property in newly built residential complexes since the beginning of the year, IGPR representatives told BURSA. The number of such complaints is higher than in the corresponding period of last year, possibly as a result of the economic crisis, which has severely affected the construction industry, the sources added.
IGPR officials further said that, of the 34 complaints, nine had turned into criminal cases, 11 had been found to be out of the IGPR"s jurisdiction and the others had been solved. The most frequent crime committed in such cases is fraud, which is incriminated by Article 215 of the Criminal Code. The damages range between 150,000 EUR and 1,500,000 EUR.
