• Management wants to summon a meeting of the Board to find solutions for the company"s issues
Situation remained tense yesterday at ICA Ghimbav (manufacturer of aircraft and spacecraft), as the company"s general manager, Traian Tomescu, was not allowed to enter the company"s headquarters by angry workers demanding the payment of their outstanding salaries. Mr. Tomescu is unhappy, as he has not been paid since April himself. "We will receiv 500,000 lei through a contract with the Romanian Aeronautical Club and we are also doing our best to get our German partners to pay us at least part of the USD 200,000 that they owe us. Our American partners owe us another USD 7,000, and we"re working on recovering that amount as well", Mr. Tomescu yesterday said. "As you can see, I"m doing my best to help the company recover its money and pay its workers. We need 600,000 lei just to cover unpaid wages for May and June and we could cover this amount using the money coming from the Romanian Aeronautical Club and maybe through a production loan, the company"s manager said.
He also announced that he will summon a meeting of the Board in the beginning of the board. "We are waiting for appointment of the special administrator so we can meet and find solutions to escape this situation", Tomescu said.
Meanwhile, the leader of the unionists on the IAR Ghimbav platform discussed with the officials in the Ministry of the Economy, which is the majority shareholder in the company. "They have no solutions, but they won"t allow the company to be closed down, which would allow our employees to receive their outstanding salaries from the Wage Guarantee Fund", he said after the meeting. Şuba Arpad said that protests of ICA Ghimbav workers will most likely continue.
