National Liberal Party (PNL) Senator, Puiu Haşotti, announced Friday, at a press conference, that the Liberal party should also take into consideration the possibility of supporting a single candidate appointed by an alliance of the opposition parties, in the presidential elections to be held in autumn this year.
The Liberal leader said that PNL should not rush into appointing a candidate for the presidential elections, at the congress to be held on March 20th-21st, but rather it should hold this off until getting the results of a social analysis, in order to see whether an alliance with another political player would not be more likely to defeat Traian Băsescu.
Puiu Haşotti explained: "I don"t think we should rush into this and designate our own candidate for the presidential elections, right now, at the upcoming congress. It"s more important that president Traian Băsescu loses the election. It would be wiser if we waited to see some studies, and decide if we could perhaps form some alliances, and negotiate with other political players, to defeat president Băsescu".
"Any kind of agreement is possible, even us rallying behind an independent candidate or the candidate of another party, as long as Băsescu loses the elections", Puiu Haşotti emphasized. Discussing the upcoming congress of the Liberal party to be held in March, the senator said that there are no reasons to amend the bylaws of PNL "except for some important matters", and as to the National Political Bureau, he said it should have "at most 21 members".
