September 1st brought with it surprises to the National Anti-Corruption Department, causing the former head of the DIICOT Alina Bica to be arrested again, as well as through a harsh anti-corruption discourse, addressed to the mass-media by Remus Vulpescu, the former head of privatization in industry, who hasn't been spared from accusations of corruption himself. However, so far, Remus Vulpescu has only stood out through his denunciation of the "Bribe at Hidroelectrica" sincerely and without ulterior motives, like he has claimed yesterday before the press.
Accustomed with public figures that are exiting the headquarters of the DNA in handcuffs or with their head bowed down, journalists saw Remus Vulpescu who was very confident, who seemed like he was sending a message to public sector employees and to the managers of state owned companies: "Stop it with the illegal decisions! Do your job or step down because prosecutors are people who know how to do their job. I've worked many jobs where, willingly or not, I've run into many irregularities".
In fact just as he was entering the DNA building, seemed to be making allusions, as he told journalists that he didn't know whether he had been called in by the DNA as a "witness or as a shot-caller".
Perhaps many heads of the state-owned companies have been and are anxious, as it is well-known that Vulpescu has denounced Eugen Brădean and Ioan Mihăilă in the case of the Hidroelectrica bribe, after a successful cooperation with the DNA prosecutors.
In that case, Ioan Mihăilă, former member of the Supervisory Board of Hidroelectrica and former advisor to former Energy Constantin Niţă, was sentenced, in February by the Court of Appeal of Bucharest to three years in prison with serving of the sentence, for offering bribes concerning the sale of energy, and Eugen Brădean received three years of prison, with complicity to offering and taking bribes, after he acknowledged the charges of the DNA prosecutors.
Upon his exit from the DNA Remus Vulpescu said that unfortunately, real estate businesses are an area which hasn't disappeared from the activity of state-owned companies: "State-owned companies shouldn't be real estate firms or real estate developers, period.
