An approximately 16-acre building lot, located on the Danube bank, near the Television Tower will be consingned to a Bucharest comapany that intends to develop here a pleasure port, numerous olympic sized swimming pools, amphitheatres and a residential district, but also the new Galati City Hall. The first steps were made last week, when the Local Council approved the partnership with SC AlfaRom Holding Bucuresti, the company which will bring into practice the touristic project whose value amounts to approximately half a billion EUR. According to local councilman Eugen Gavan"s statements, the whole ensemble will be finalized by 2010. He also mentioned that: "It is a far-reaching project, it may even be a dream - nonetheless, a dream that can be accomplished. The investment as a whole will total approximately 400-500 million EUR. It is a significant amount of money, but we were offered bank guarantees. Construction should start at the beginning of next year, provided the legal agreement between the two parties - the town and the company - will develop as planned."
The piece of land on which the whole touristic project is to be built is currently uncared for, this being the main reason the partnership decision was adopted. Eduard Grosu, head of the Galati Public Domain Administration Service (SADP), an institution which is in charge with managing the Danube bank lots, believes that the area must be entirely rebuilt in order to assume a pleasant appearance. Eugen Grosu stated that: "The Danube bank hasn"t changed for quite a few years and in order to rebuild this area, a complex plan is required". The length of the Danube bank alongside the city of Galati is 1 km.
