• The lawyer says that "Piperea şi asociaţii" will no longer involve itself in any class action lawsuit to represent bank borrowers
Lawyer Gheorghe Piperea, known for his lawsuits against banks and called, on many occasions, "the Modern Robin Hood", yesterday announced on his Facebook page, that he is dropping the class action lawsuits filed this year pertaining to CHF loans and to the lawsuits filed against Volksbank in 2014-2015.
He told us yesterday that the lawsuit no. 3 filed on the issue of CHF loans brings together approximately 100 people, and the lawsuit filed against Volksbank concerning risk commissions involves about 100 more.
Obviously upset with the behavior of his clients, the lawyer says: "Given that I am in the middle of an avalanche of requests for termination of the counsel contracts that have been signed with me, for refunding the fees and of complaints filed against me and my team with the ANPC, I hereby state that I am dropping all the class action lawsuits unified under the CHF 3 name (the lawsuits filed upon the request of CHF borrowers after January 15th 2015), as well as every class action lawsuit brought against Volksbank in 2014-2015, lawsuits which are named PNC 4, 5, 6 and 7. The plaintiffs in these lawsuits are invited to send us updated account information so we can fully refund them the initial fees".
He added that upon the plaintiffs' request and for no extra charge, the lawsuits may be continued as individual lawsuits.
Gheorghe Piperea warns that "Piperea şi Asociaţii will not file any more class action lawsuits in support of banks borrowers". However, he said that he will continue to provide legal representation to borrowers that are parties to the CHF 1 and CHF 2 lawsuits.
The lawyer states that "the notifications and requests have a lawyer-like style", and says that it is "obvious" that the people who have asked for the termination of the contracts have been influenced by certain lawyers or jurists.
Like any self-respecting "Robin Hood" however, Gheorghe Piperea apparently isn't completely giving up on his "calling", as revealed by the end of his Facebook message: "The banks' nightmare isn't going to end here".
Over the last year, the lawyer has been very vocal in his criticism of the judicial system and the banking system, as he is involved in a number of individual and class action lawsuits, in which he is defending bank debtors.
Starting with the end of last year, the courts have severed several of Gheorghe Piperea's class action lawsuits.
Lately, banks have begun making various offers for conversion of CHF-denominated loans, of which the initiative of Volksbank/Banca Transilvania, which involved the conversion at a discount was considered the most advantageous to debtors and the most successful.
