The delegation of the officials of the Canadian Agri-Sustainability Partnership - CASP, recently presented the conclusions of its official visit to Romania, which revolve first and foremost around the significant potential of the farming sector and the solutions for improving the situation of Romania"s agriculture. As part of the event hosted by his Excellency, Mr. Philippe Beaulne, the Canadian Ambassador to Romania, CASP officials expressed their intention to intensify their activities in Romania, as well as in other countries in South-Eastern Europe.
CASP represents Canada"s largest strategic alliance for the mobilization and coordination of Canadian interests and expertise in areas such as agriculture, fish farming, rural development and environmental protection.
Douglas MacArthur, the chairman of the CASP, said that "Romania has significant potential in the agricultural domain, and, by our expertise, we can contribute to the development of that sector. Our activities will unfold in Romania for the most part, as we will be based here, but we plan to expand to other countries such as the Republic of Moldova, that also has potential in this sector. Our intention is to provide the necessary "know-how" needed for this economic sector to prosper, especially as Romania has all the requirements - adequate soil, favorable climate".
Another sector that holds relevance for CASP officials is renewable energy. For instance, Mr. Gary Morgan, the vice-president of the organization, talked about the technologies which allow farming waste to be used for heating buildings. He also said, that apart from renewable energy, the organization is also interested in increasing the productivity of the milk farms. "Our goal is to add value to the product, on its route between the producers and the endpoint - the supermarkets", the vice-president of the CASP concluded.
