Romanian citizens with a valid passport will be able to enter the territory of Japan without visas, as long as their stay lasts less than 90 consecutive days, a press release by the Embassy of Japan says. The lifting of mandatory visas will not apply to citizens looking for work in Japan or those looking to perform in Japan (including artists, athletes or any other professionals looking to perform in exchange for compensation).

The decision comes into effect starting September 1st, and will become permanent provided no incidents occur in the first two years since its enactment. This measure was introduced to commemorate 50 years since Romania and Japan resumed diplomatic relations, and is intended to facilitate trade and cultural relations. Romanian citizens that want to enter Japan are expected to comply with the country"s legislation and regulations, the press release of the embassy says.
