Rompetrol Assigned Investment Bank To Handle Minority Stake Sale

Rompetrol Group assigned an international investment bank to to handle the sale of a minority stake in the company. The transaction should be finalized by the beginning of April, according to Rompetrol president Dinu Patriciu, quoted by NewsIn. "We have assigned an investment bank to handle the sale of a minority stake in Rompetrol Group, and the transaction should be finalized in the first quarter of this year", said Patriciu. He also said that he is aware of the intentions of Kazakhstan-based company KazMunaiGaz to acquire shares in Rompetrol Group, but only from a company press release sent to Russian agency Prime Tass.

"As the investment bank is handling this transaction, nobody expressed any intention towards us, I do not know who else may show interest, and i am not interested", stated Patriciu.

In September 2006, Dinu Patriciu said he had received many partnership proposals from companies that want to buy between 10 and 35% in Rompetrol, but he claimed he would remain the majority shareholder at any price. According to Russian agecy Prime Tass, KazMunaiGaz is interested in acquiring shares in Rompetrol Group in order to be able to participate in the privatisation of Serbian state oil company Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS). Rompetrol has already announced its interest in the Serbian company.
