Rovinari Energy (Complexul Energetic Rovinari) has launched a new set of auctions to sell energy on the Centralized Market for Bilateral Contracts (PCCB) managed by OPCOM, following the cancellation of the auctions scheduled for Friday because of lack of bidders. The company announced the sale of four packages of 183,600 MWh each on 20 February. The delivery period is 1 March - 31 December 2009. The minimum bid price is 189 RON/MWh.

The State-controlled Rovinari Energy had announced the sale of four packages of 91,775 MWh each for 13 February. The delivery period was 1 March - 31 July 2009. The minimum bid price was 190 RON/MWh. Ion Lungu, President of the Associated Electric Energy Suppliers in Romania (AFEER) told BURSA that the lack of bids during Friday"s auction could be explained by the short delivery period and the fairly large starting price.

"Now, the average price of the daily electricity transactions is very low compared to what it was in November and December. Many suppliers hesitated to buy and waited for better offers on PCCB. I believe that the auctions organized on 20 February will have enough bidders," Lungu explained. The lack of buyers prompted Rovinari Energy to increase the volume of the package and the delivery periods. The price was also slightly decreased.
