French retailer "Carrefour" may exit the Romanian market, according to Retaildetail.eu, which quotes a report by ING. The quoted source states that the retail chain may also abandon its businesses in Argentina, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Malaysia, Poland, Taiwan and Turkey. The official announcement may appear this summer, as the reason for the exit from the aforementioned countries would be the failure of the current CEO of "Carrefour", Lars Olofsson, to achieve the results which were expected of him.
Contacted by BURSA, the officials of "Carrefour" France did not wish to comment the information which was published in the international press.
In Romania, "Carrefour" owns over 50 supermarkets, 5 franchises and 25 hypermarkets.
According to data published by the Ministry of Public Finance, the company had more than 7,000 employees, posting a turnover of about 3,9 billion lei, and a profit of over 140 million lei.
