Russia is interested in a stake in Bulgarian nuclear plant in Belene (Bulgaria), which is being built by a Russian company, Serghei Kirienko, the chairman of "Rosatom", the Russian state corporation for atomic energy said yesterday.
"If Bulgaria announces an auction for the sale of a stake in the Belene Nuclear Plant, we would like to participate in the tender".
"Rosatom" owns the majority stake in "AtomStroiExport", the company that won the contract for the construction of the Belene plant. The contract is worth 4 billion Euros and was signed on January 18th 2008. "AtomStroiExport" built most of the nuclear plants in countries belonging to the former communist bloc, including the Kozlodui plant in Bulgaria.
