Uniqa, an insurance company owned by the eponymous Austrian company, reported a 4% drop in subscribed premiums for 2009, to 486.64 million lei, whereas claims increased 4.8%, to 409.51 million lei, according to preliminary data published by the company.
The level of gross subscribed premiums is below the company"s December 2009 expectations, of 513.84 million.
The gross subscribed premiums amounted to roughly 507 million lei in 2008.
CASCO type insurance takes the top spot in the portfolio of Uniqa Asigurări, with 267.31 million lei in subscribed premiums from business customers, (around 55% of the total portfolio). General civil liability policies have also increased, with a total of subscribed premiums of 4.29 million RON.
Gross subscribed premiums from civil liability car insurance policies (RCA and Green Card) have increased slightly over 2008, (3.3%), to 163 million lei at the end of 2009, according to the press release by the company.
Uniqa Asigurări is one of the top ten largest players of the local insurance market, with a net profit of 9.2 million lei in Q3 2009.
Claims paid in 2009 amounted to 409.51 million lei, up 5% over 2008.
Uniqa is one of the largest financial groups in Austria and operates in 20 European countries. After acquiring "Unita" from Vienna Insurance Group, Uniqa performed a share capital increase of 45 million Euros.
