The total number of construction permits for residential developments issued in the first six months of the year was 23,864, down by 18.8% from the corresponding period of 2008, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS). The decline was particularly substantial in the development regions Bucharest-Ilfov (-1,652 permits) Centre and South-Muntenia (-783 permits each) and North-West (-651 permits).
According to a press release to BURSA, the overall number of residential construction permits issued in June 2009 was 4,747, up by 6.1% from May 2009 and down by 22.6% from June 2008. Approximately 65% of the residential construction permits were issued for construction sites in rural areas, in line with the trend noted the previous month.
The geographical distribution of the construction permits for residential sites indicates a slightly upward trend in nearly all development regions. South-Muntenia reported +178 permits, followed by North-East with +87 permits, North-West with +68 permits and South-West Oltenia with +61 permits. Development region Bucharest-Ilfov recessed by -170 permits and West by -6 permits.
