Spanish investments in Romania have reached 180.88 billion EUR, according to Rosa Maria Sanchez - Yebra Alonso, advisor to the Economic and Commercial Bureau of the Spanish Embassy in Bucharest, who attended the Spanish Real Estate Investments in Romania Days.
Spain is the 8th leading country to have invested in Romania with 3.57% of the overall volume of foreign investments through 876 companies.
"Romania is attracting investments through its market, competent workforce, still small salaries, economic development and EU membership. Moreover, there is a cultural closeness between the two countries as 12% of the population of Spain are Romanians," she said.
Attending the event, the mayor of Voluntari, a satellite town near Bucharest, said Spanish investors were going to invest some 500 million EUR in this community. "Construction works on 5,000 homes will begin in Voluntari this year. We will offer a 1.6 million EUR discount from the local taxes to companies that invest over 20 million EUR. We estimate that Voluntari will reach a population of 300,000 in the next five years," he said.
