Sport should be at the forefront of environmental protection. Unfortunately, this is not the case, but there are exceptions. Udinese is the greenest football club in Italy and the fourth in the world, its objective being zero carbon emissions, and its philosophy is sustainability. His latest program is the transformation of his stadium into the first sports solar park in Italy, informs EFE. "This project will not lead to significant savings, because it is more of a quality project to send a strong message at a social level," said Magda Pozzo, the club's commercial director. Thus, about 2,500 solar panels will be mounted on top of the renovated structure and will generate 1 million megawatts annually. This work will allow the stadium to provide lighting for night matches and will avoid carbon emissions of 450 tons, thus becoming a pioneer in Italy. The Italian club thus takes one more step towards environmental responsibility in sports. The Serie A team has already implemented projects such as playing shirts made of recycled materials or a mobile application that allows players to choose their food the day before to avoid food waste. "This project is also thanks to our sponsors, whom we want to include in our philosophy. With "Bluenergy" we started using green energy four years ago and we will continue," said the commercial director, who added that "the solar park is our most ambitious project". The way is open, it remains to be seen how many clubs will want to take the step from words to deeds.
