Cargill Romania will buy imported raw materials for edible oil production as no Romanian farmer is selling sunflower, Marketing Manager Angela Dinu said. "Our policy is to buy raw materials only from the domestic market to encourage Romanian farmers. Unfortunately, we will have to import because no one is selling seeds at the moment. We will not import seeds, but raw oil," she said. The drought pushed prices up significantly, from some 280 USD/ton last year to up to 560 USD/ton this year. "We"ve tried to keep prices constant, even though raw materials are increasingly more expensive," Dinu added. Cargill is one of the leading global producers of foodstuffs, farming services and risk management. Established in the US in 1865, the company has 158,000 employees in 66 countries. Last year"s revenues were 88 billion USD globally and 225 million USD in Romania. The Romanian unit was established in 1996 can produce 50 million liters of edible oil per year.
