The chairman of the Agricultural Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Valeriu Tabără, stated that he has nothing against the construction of an airport in Braşov.
"But I couldn"t approve the Government Emergency Ordinance no. 41/2007by which assigned 200 hectares to the County Council because we have noted that 110 hectares of this area don"t seem to be necessary", Tabără explained, who also added that last year he requested documentation concerning the Braşov airport, to check whether the request for the assignment of the plot of land had legal grounds.
Tabără also took the opportunity to answer to the chairman of the Bra ov County Council, Aristotel Căncescu, who accused prime minister Emil Boc of opposing the construction of an airport in Braşov.
Mr. Tabără explained: "It is not true that Mr. Boc is against it. It was I who requested that the Government review that ordinance, given the documentation that it was based on. We don"t have anything against that ordinance, but in order to do that, we need to see why such a big area of land was allocated, because the documents that were used as grounds for the ordinance state that the assigned plot of land was supplemented by an additional 110 hectares".
What"s more, Tabără said that he is being heavily pressured. "Copos seems to think what works in the National Lottery business works in any business. Geoană received Copos and talked to him about this land, but he wouldn"t see me to allow me to explain the situation to him. So I just can"t understand how he can simply issue any statements related to expediting the emergency ordinance seeing as he doesn"t even know what it"s all about".
Tabără also reminded that the documentation that supports the ordinance was "improvised", and then he asked how can an airport be built with just 74 million Euros. "An airport is serious business, I can"t just sign the papers and then have investigators come and ask me why I allowed hundreds of hectares to be speculated", he said, and he also mentioned that the Potato Institute can not defend itself, even if it is strategic for the Romanian agriculture.
