Teachers have begun protests, unhappy with the fact that unions were not consulted on the new law of education, according to Agerpres.
Teachers complain that starting with January 1st, 2010, their wages were cut by 15%.
According to the schedule of the protests which was recently announced by the leaders of the Federation of Free Unions in the Education Sector, (FSLI), teachers will hold street protests,
pickets, and warning strikes across Romania, and between April 12 and April 30th, protesters will picket the headquarters of the Government and of the Ministry of Education.
Also, between May 1 - May 15th, teachers will hold street protests in Bucharest, and later will hold a nation wide warning strike between May 15-May 31st.
According to the Federation of Free Unions in the Education Sector (FSLI), the protests could be followed by a general strike in the first ten days of June, which could lead to the freezing of the school year.
At the same time, unionists will file petitions against the government with the international institutions. At the same time, students which are members of the National Union of Romanian Students, have begun protests as well, unhappy with the insufficient amounts of the scholarships, and the current social status of students.
