In 2011 - The Tear of Ovidiu, produced by Murfatlar, earned a medal for the fourth time

A few days ago, "The tear of Ovidiu" (Lacrima lui Ovidiu), a wine made by Murfatlar Romania, won the most top award of a wine fair held in Argentina - Gran Oro. The medal was awarded at the end of the International Contest Vinandino 2011, the most important of South America, which is held once every two years. Vinandino brings together the most important producers of America and the rest of the world alike. The jury rated 725 samples from over 200 producers.

In the year 2011, the only syrupy wine made in Romania, The tear of Ovidiu, won its fourth award - after winning the gold at the Berliner Wine Trophy and Vinalies Internationales Paris, and winning the silver medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. Murfatlar has a share of 25% of the Romanian wine market.

Last year, the company had a turnover of 140 million lei. Representatives of the company"s management expect it to increase to 185 million by the end of 2011, of which 45 million lei will come from the sales of its national chain of stores called "Crama Murfatlar" (the Murfatlar Wine Cellar).

Daniel Negrescu, brand manager at Murfatlar, stated: "Murfatlar is the most important investor in the wine industry. From vineyards to wine cellars and bottling lines, each segment underwent retooling and modernization. At the moment, our company owns the most modern and advanced technology in the market. The vast project for rejuvenating the vineyard focused mostly on the varieties of red grapes Fetească Neagră, Pinot Noir and Merlot, with the investment amounting to approximately 15.6 million Euros. The money was spent on replanting 975 hectares of noble vineyard".

In the year 2011, the rejuvenation plan involves the replanting of 130 hectares of vine, and the reconversion program can be accessed until 2014. Murfatlar will continue accessing the program until its expiration, and intends to replant about 60% of its current vineyard surface of 3000 hectares.
