BRAŞOV
County councilmen of Braşov voted in favor of the proposal made by Aristotel Căncescu, the chairman of the Council, to assign the Council"s stake in the FC Braşov football club.
"I propose we assign our shares in FC Braşov to the Mayoralty of Braşov, provided that the Mayoralty be prohibited to sell them. The money the County Council spent supporting FC Braşov, could have been spent supporting other sports. The Mayoralty of Braşov has far more potential when it comes to this issue. We don"t want to disrupt the operation of the club, so the best thing for us to do would be to assign these shares to the Mayoralty. It"s now the turn of the Local Council of Braşov to vote on whether it wants these shares or not", said Aristotel Căncescu, referring to his proposal. The County Council holds approximately 11% of the shares of FC Braşov.
The head of the Braşov County Council said he is willing to offer for free the study it requested on the modernization of the ski slopes of Braşov. "We received government funds last year to perform this study. We placed an order for it with a company with expertise in this segment, but in the end it we couldn"t use it, because we didn"t receiveh the funds to implement it. So the best thing to do is to give it away for free to the Mayoralty of Braşov in order to avoid the need for a new study on this subject", Aristotel Căncescu, head of the County Council of Braşov said.
• Mayor of Braşov: "Just because it"s free, it does not mean it won"t cost anything"
When contacted by phone, mayor George Scripcaru says that this kind of statements are just propaganda. "Just because it"s free, it doesn"t mean it won"t cost anything. For us it would actually be an additional burden on the local budget. We will review this proposal. But, rather than making this kind of statements, people in the County Council should approve the Integrated Urban Development Plan for the Metropolitan Area instead. The plan is extremely important for the rural areas in the region. We"ve got EUR 87 million waiting for requests from the local administrations in the Metropolitan Area. This is what they should be concerned about. But nothing surprises me anymore. The members of the County Council say they represent the county of Braşov, but it seems that they are not interested in these funds. They think they"re actually thwarting the Mayoralty, but they"re not. What they"re doing is harming their colleagues in the rural areas of the Metropolitan area. The mayors in those areas come mostly from other political parties such as PNL, PSD and UDMR", Mayor George Scripcaru said.
