Energy consumers should be educated about energy efficiency, said Martin Zmelik, Country Manager and president of the Directorate of CEZ România.
According to him, Romania's energy sector must focus on decreasing consumption, reducing losses as well as on selecting "intelligent" projects, such as small production units.
He said that the lighting system, especially the public one, must undergo changes in order to reach better consumption control and a more efficient cost management. Also, the heating supply should be rethought, and the modernization of the heat distribution system would be a solution that would require significant investments, in order to reduce losses to a minimum. Moreover, this would also lead to an increase in the economic competition between small producers, which is still expected to bring about technological development and mass production in the future.
Given that the market liberalization will lead to an ongoing price increase, companies will become increasingly aware of the need for energy efficiency, which will, in the end, lead to a better energy management, says the official of CEZ România .
"Services concerning energy efficiency have a high potential for growth in Romania", added Martin Zmelik, who emphasized the fact that Romania can save 62% of its current consumption by implementing energy efficiency measures, as it is one of the most energy intensive countries in Europe.
According to CEZ România, based on the latest estimates, Romania could save 5-7 billion Euros through energy efficiency measures.
