Yesterday, the European single currency hovered around the 4 month-low, against the dollar, as investors worried over the success of the sovereign bonds auctions held this week.
The exchange rate for the Euro reached 1.2899 dollars on the London market, compared to 1.2907 dollars in New York, on January 7. The exchange rate had previously dropped to 1.2867 dollars, the lowest level since September 14th, 2010.
Yesterday morning, the exchange rate on the American market stood at 1.2924 dollars.
Also, the Dollar Index, which tracks the evolution of the American currency against the six major currencies of the largest trade partners of the USA, (including the Euro and the Yen), rose for the sixth day in a row, as investors await the publication of good news about the world"s largest economy.
The Dollar Index rose 0.3% on the London market, at 10:38, to 81.232, after previously reaching 81.273 - the highest level since December 1st. In New York, the index rose 0.1% at 08:36, to 81.063.
Analysts say that the dollar is benefiting from growing optimism on the state of the US economy. Meanwhile, the Euro is being pressured as the markets await the bond auctions.
According to data by Bloomberg, on January 12fth, Portugal is looking to sell bonds with a 2014 and 2020 maturity, and Italy is looking to sell bonds with a 2015 and 2026 maturity. On January 13th, Spain will auction off bonds with a 2016 maturity.
