The Ministry of Public Finance will begin, on January 26th, the payment of invoices that were issued last year, which, on December 31rd 2008, amounted to 3,05 billion lei.
The outstanding invoices will be paid in installments. Thus, starting January 26th, until the end of the month, the amount of 1 billion lei will be paid, and in February another 1 billion lei will be paid, with the balance to be paid in the beginning of March 2009.
"It is unacceptable that the state be the main element that is obstructing normal operation of the economy", added the Minister of Finance, Gheorghe Pogea. Prime Minister Emil Boc said, at the presentation of the draft budget for 2009, that the current government has inherited major unpaid invoices, for works that were done in 2008 and for which payment wasn"t made.
"At the government level only, excluding the local budgets, the value of unpaid invoices equals 1,1 billion Euros", said Boc.
However, to prevent any possible economic bottleneck, the Prime Minister said that he has decided to pay them, in order to ensure the functioning of the economy.
Emil Boc stated: "The Government has this global obligation to not add to not create additional bottlenecks in the economy. That is why, we are going to try, within the limit of available resources and of the revenues we have, to eliminate such bottlenecks by paying these outstanding invoices".
