Valentin Ionescu: "I will be working on the implementation of the strategy for growth which was approved by the General Shareholders" Assembly and I will also propose new projects to strengthen the market".

Given the fact that the main issue the Bucharest Stock Exchange is the lack of investors, leading to a very low turnover, Valentin Ionescu, the new managing director of the BSE, says he will try to increase trading volume and make the market more attractive, to allow the BSE to catch up to the other developed exchanges in the region.

"During my tenure, I will try to bring the Bucharest Stock Exchange to the level of the other exchanges in the region. The Exchange already has a development strategy which was approved by its General Assembly of Shareholders, and I will be working on the implementation of this strategy, and I will also propose new projects to strengthen the market", said Valentin Ionescu, who specified that he would provide more details on this matter once he effectively took over his position.

Valentin Ionescu has been involved in the capital market since 1995, working since the beginning as a broker and operations manager. The last position he held prior to his current appointment was with BCR - Erste. Over the course of the past few years he worked in Prague, for Wood and in Vienna for brokerage firm Euroinvest Bank.

He will be replacing Anca Dumitru as managing director of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, starting September 27th.

The appointment of Valentin Ionescu as managing director of the BSE came just as Daniel Ţepeş, one of the most influential shareholders of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, announced his resignation from the Board of Directors.
