The designer of the new Justice Palace of Iaşi intends to submit the documentation needed for the Regional Urban Planning stage (PUZ). Thus, the investment came to the attention of the Traffic Commission of the City of Iaşi. Andrei Trofor, the spokesperson of the Iaşi Mayoralty said: "So far, the City Planning Commission of the Local Municipal Council has only approved the theme of the Regional Urban Plan. The members of the Traffic Commission approved the project in question, but they have requested several modifications, in order to help streamline car traffic in the area". The future Palace of Justice will feature 200 parking spots instead of 100, as initially planned. Also, in order to streamline traffic, the Traffic Commission requested that the exit of the parking lot be located on Conductelor street and not on Elena Doamna street, which is currently seeing intense traffic. Once the requested modifications will be implemented, the project will be submitted to the Urban Planning Commission, and will then be discussed in a meeting of the Local Council of the City of Iaşi and the construction authorization will be granted.
The new Palace of Justice of Iaşi will be built on an ultracentral plot of land, located at the junction of the Elena Doamna and Târgu Cucu streets. According to the project, the future headquarter of the judges of Iaşi will have a total area of over 16,000 sqm and will house the operations of the Tribunal and of the Court of Appeal of Iaşi.
The World Bank gave Romania a EUR 110 million loan to reform justice, intended for the rehabilitation of several courts, the improving management and increasing the efficiency of the legal activity. The city of Iaşi received EUR 7 million to build a new Palace of Justice. The amount matches the EUR 7.3 million estimate of the preliminary feasibility study made in 2003. The auction for designing the building was won by Iaşi company Mihul SRL.
