Definitive ruling against Adrian Năstase -two years in jail

Yesterday, a definitive ruling was rendered by which former PM Adrian Năstase was sentenced to serve two years in prison by the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ), in the "Quality trophy" case, where he was being charged in connection to the raising of funds for the electoral campaign of 2004, when he ran for Presidency from the PSD. The five judges of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) partially admitted the appeals made by Adrian Năstase and by the other defendants in the "Quality trophy" case.

The court quashed the ruling of January by which Adrian Năstase was sentenced to two years in prison, and in the retrial, they changed the legal nature of his charges. For the new infraction held against him, the judges maintained the same sentence of two years in prison.

The ruling in the case is final and will be enforced.

On January 30th, 2012, former prime minister Adrian Năstase had been sentenced to two years in prison, by a panel of three judges of the supreme court, in the case "Quality trophy", in which he is being charged with illegally raising funds for the electoral campaign of 2004, when he ran for president for the Social Democrat Party (PSD).

In the same case, Irina Paula Jianu, former state general inspector of the Construction State Inspectorate, was sentenced to six years in prison and to five years of restriction of some rights, a punishment which was supplemented by a mandatory increase of 1 year.

Diana Gasparovici, former deputy state inspector in the Construction State Inspectorate, Mihail Cristian Vasile, general manager of SC Eurografica SRL and the spouses Marian Ioana and Bogdan Popovici each were sentenced to six years in prison, with a mandatory increase of 1 year.
