The changes proposed as part of the new fiscal code are positive, says Mircea Tudor, the president of MB Telecom, who claims that the Ministry of Finance shows an openness to the business sector it has never shown before.
He said: "We have a long way to go before the new code is approved. What is important is that we have a month of discussions and if the Ministry of Finance agreed to at least half of the proposals of the business sector, then I can say that Romania will see the beginning of a growth trend. We hope that the new code will not be deviated from its good intentions when it gets put up for vote in the Parliament".
The president of MB Telecom has proposed to the Ministry of Finance the introduction of a neutral arbiter in its relationship between the ANAF and the taxpayers: "I think that this arbiter could be the judicial system. The ability of the ANAF to block the taxpayers' accounts without a court order should be removed. We have also proposed for the state and the taxpayers to have mirrored rights and obligations. The state must commit the payment of its debts to the private sector with penalties and interest if it doesn't pay on time".
• Investing in research, a chance for Romania's development
Romania has a great potential to shine in the area of research and innovation, but never before has it used this potential, says Mircea Tudor.
He said that investments in research are Romania's chance to develop, to have a more competitive economy.
The representative of MB Telecom explained: "I believe that the government is decoupled from objects that could be strategic, and of national interest. All the studies show that there is a direct correlation between investments in research and the rate of development. Romania is not investing in research, even though it is ranked 6th in the world and 2nd in Europe in terms of professional competence".
MB Telecom owns a technology that is unique in the world, which received awards in Geneva in 2013, which allows the scanning of all types of trucks and containers and has recently launched the technology for the scanning of aircraft. Mircea Tudor says that the technology allows the visualization of every object and merchandise items inside aircraft, containers and trucks and it can serve as an important aid for the authorities in the struggle against smuggling and drugs.
He told us that the government did not support him in the promotion of this technology. The production of the scanners is located in Otopeni and so far, MB Telecom has exported 22 units for the scanning of trucks and containers to Latvia, Togo, Turkey and Gambia.
