The swords are being sharpened

On his quick visit to the US in September 2011, Traian Băsescu signed the agreement concerning the placing of parts of the missile shield in Romania, precisely to prevent an attack from Iran. It would also seem that during that visit, president Traian Băsescu was asked to back the head of the Romanian Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE), Mihai Răzvan Ungureanu, for the position of president, after the term of Traian Băsescu expired.

The open conflict between the USA, Israel and Europe, on one hand, and Russia and China, on the other, centered on the protests in Syria and the sanctions imposed on Iran is becoming increasingly intense, as a military intervention is considered basically imminent.

The parliament of Iran yesterday announced that it was ready to prohibit the export of oil to some European countries, in response to the EU announcement concerning the embargo on the acquisition of Iranian oil, starting on July 1st. Earlier this week, American president Barack Obama announced harsher sanctions on Iran, giving the Federal Reserve and American banks the right to freeze assets of the government of Tehran.

Analysts consider that after an intervention in Syria, intended to force the president Bashar al-Assad to step down, an attack on Iran is bound to follow.

It would seem however that Iran and Syria have on their side two major powers, China and Russia. The two have attracted the anger of the US, Europe and most of the Arab world for exercising their right to veto against a UN resolution requesting the resignation of the Syrian president and the stopping of violent social unrest which has already been going on for 11 months. Analysts consider that Russia and China, countries with a huge military and economic potential, will be joined by some Latin-American countries.
