Transporting students to school is crucial, especially in rural areas where there are very long distances to cover. The Minister of Development, Public Works, and Administration, Adrian-Ioan Veştea, participated alongside local authorities from 41 counties in the handover ceremony of 110 vehicles exclusively dedicated to transporting students in the pre-university public education system. According to the minister, "Access to education also includes ensuring safe transportation for all students, regardless of their origins. The minibuses we delivered today to local authorities are particularly aimed at supporting students in areas where public transportation is scarce, and through this measure, we want to contribute to preventing school dropout and ensuring equal opportunities." According to the ministry, these minibuses, equipped with 16+1 seats, will serve communities in rural areas where educational institutions are located at a considerable distance from students' residences. The total value of the financing contract is 26,806,618.30 lei. From 2013 to 2016, the Romanian Government, through the Ministry of Development, Public Works, and Administration, acquired and handed over to local authorities another 2,163 vehicles exclusively dedicated to student transportation, with 196 of them donated to the Government of the Republic of Moldova.
