Tudor Chirila Prefers U.S. Markets To BSE

Tudor Chirila, a rock singer and a member of the rock band Vama, intends to buy stock listed on U.S. markets rather than on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE) as the local market does not offer him the instruments he seeks to protect his money against risk, such as options.

"If I were to buy stock listed on the BSE, I would focus on the SIFs, BRD and Petrom, but, for the time being, I intend to only buy shares in Yahoo!, considering the conflict between them and Google," Chirila said during the starting bell ceremony of the BSE on Tuesday.

Chirila has recently become a shareholder in the BSE after having bought 14,540 BSE shares for approximately 85,000 EUR. "I"m waiting for the BSE shares to gain about 10-15% and then I"m selling," he said. For the time being, his portfolio does not include any shares in Romanian-based entities, except for BSE.

Chirila started investing in stock two years ago, when markets were reporting historical highs, and focused almost exclusively on U.S. stock. "I started trading on the simulation platform of Investopedia and then I bought shares in Vodafone, Apple and Google on the U.S. markets. When Bernanke, the boss of the FED, was about to announce the decrease in the key rate, I still had open positions, which I did not close then and I lost money, because I got greedy and waited for a certain profit to come," Chirila added. "On the Stock Exchange, if you don"t lose, you don"t win," he concluded.

He confessed that, one time, he was so caught up in a transaction that he was late for a concert. He added that, besides the shares listed on the BSE, his investment portfolio also includes EUR/USD options and that, overall, his investments had rendered a profit.
