The unemployment rate in Germany stayed at 6.3% in December 2015 - the lowest level since the reunification of the country in 1990 -, an evolution which places the biggest European economy on a solid position in the beginning of this year.
The Federal Labor Office in Berlin has announced yesterday that the number of unemployed persons fell 14,000 last month (seasonally adjusted), to 2.757 million. Analysts were expecting the number to drop by 8,000, or the unemployment rate to remaining stable, respectively.
"The favorable developments on the labor market have continued at the end of 2015. There are labor offers, and the evolution of the social security contributions remains positive", said Frank-Juergen Weise, the president of the Federal Labor Office.
In 2015, unemployment in Germany fell to 6.4%, from 6.7% last year. The number of unemployed persons in the country decreased 104,000 in 2015, to 2.795 million - the lowest level since 1991, according to official figures.
In the opinion of Frank-Juergen Weise, the number of unemployed persons in Germany will increase by 70,000 people on average, this year, because integrating the migrants "takes time".
