The Government is about to leave education system employees empty-pocketed before the holidays, according to a press release from the National Education Federation (FEN). "After having repeatedly issued emergency ordinances to cancel the law on increasing the salaries paid to the teaching staff as of 1 October, the Government is not even able to ensure salary payment before the year-end. We are in a situation where our colleagues may not collect their salaries before the winter holidays. Last week, we thought that this was an isolated case, but today we realize that increasingly numerous counties do not have the funds to pay salaries for November. Mayors told us that they had notified prefects of this situation, but, because of the election campaign taking place at that time, the Government only disbursed funds to politically affiliated administrations," said FEN Secretary General Constantin Ciosu. According to the press release, FEN is urging the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth to urgently disburse the funds necessary for paying salaries due for November and to take disciplinary measures against those responsible for this situation as per Art. 38(4) of the Framework Labour Agreement applicable to the education system. FEN pointed out that they would take every legal step to cause the cancellation of the Government decision on the reference standards for quality assurance in pre-university education units.
