The executive members of the boards of directors of the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) and the National Bank of Romania (BNR) could lose their allowances, if a bill initiated by USR MPs Irineu Darău, Adrian Miftode and Claudiu Năsui passes the vote Legislature.
According to a press release issued by USR, the annual value of the respective allowances represents the equivalent of hot meals that 500 students could have during the school year and would lead to an annual saving of 2,232,252 lei for the state budget.
During a press conference held at the Parliament together with his colleagues from the USR, Senator Irineu Darău declared: "We are giving a helping hand to the Ciolacu Government to cover the budget hole. He only has to look left and right, for example at the specialists from the ASF and BNR managements. Executive members of the Boards of Directors are paid twice for the same work. More than 500 children could be fed through the Hot Meal program if the allowances of the nine finance moguls were cut. What do PSD and PNL choose?".
The press release issued by USR shows that among those targeted by the bill is Mugur Isărescu, the governor of the National Bank of Romania, who has a monthly salary of 52,447 lei (net), and the allowance for being a member of the board of directors of the same institutions of 22,706 lei, as well as the president of the Financial Supervision Authority, Nicu Marcu, who earns monthly 43,178 lei (net), and 19,665 lei allowance for the position held on the board of directors.
Regarding the ASF, deputy Claudiu Năsui, former Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism in the Cîţu government, said: "What was the ASF hiding that I had to sue them? They gave themselves two new salaries a year. That is, they went from 14 to 16 salaries per year. In addition to having 14 salaries a year (12 monthly salaries, plus a Christmas bonus and a performance bonus), in February 2022 they added two more: an additional holiday pay and an additional of "ASF Day".
The former Minister of Economy also specified that 95% of ASF employees, i.e. almost 500 people, receive a performance bonus and that the members of the Authority's Board of Directors also benefit from the respective bonuses, who when negotiating with the employee representatives their collective labor agreement they practically also negotiate their own income that they are going to receive.
