The Union of Professional Journalists of Romania (UZPR) strongly condemns attacks on democratic values and threats received by journalists who work in the name of the public's right to information. According to the UZPR: "The Union of Professional Journalists of Romania, as a promoter of democratic values and a supporter of full freedom of the press and the right of journalists to do their job safely, strongly condemns attacks on these values and threats received by journalists who work in the name of the public's right to information." According to the cited source, "it is known that the Union of Professional Journalists of Romania has always stood against any attacks on press freedom and the work of journalists, hate speech and actions directed against the pillars of the rule of law". UZPR adds: "Attempts to intimidate journalists are aggressions against the fundamental values of democracy, and hostile speech directed against impartial journalists, who do their duty to reveal to society the aspects they identify in the work of individuals and public institutions, "constitute a threat to pluralism and the health of the public space", as the National Audiovisual Council points out. As stipulated in the Statute approved by the members of UZPR, the largest trade union organization in the country unwaveringly supports respect for press freedom, ensuring that journalists can carry out their work in complete safety and complete independence, as well as protecting freedom of expression". Protests are very good, but the authorities must also punish these slippages.
