The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) recently said in a report, that the "stimuli" included in the EUR 13 billion stimulus package announced by the Romanian government in February 2009 as a means of supporting the economy were "more imaginary than real", since very few projects got off the ground and the effect of the program on the economy has been negligible, the head economist of the EBRD for South Eastern Europe, Peter Sanfey, said in a study.

Yesterday, in a press conference, the minister of the Economy, Adriean Videanu, said that the EBRD does not have a close knowledge of the realities of the Romanian economy, which has real chances of seeing a slight recovery this year. Adriean Videanu said: "It is not true that the anti-crisis measures adopted by the government were fruitless. On the contrary, their effect will be to reinvigorate the economy this year. I can say that last year, the economic decline slowed down in the second semester, thanks to the energy sector, which will serve as the engine of the Romanian economy and will help reinvigorate it this year".

Minister Videanu said that industrial output has seen a slight increase lately, and that in 2010, the metallurgic sector has seen a growth of around 30% compared to last year"s similar period.
