Volksbank Romania and Piraeus Bank Romania have joined the clearing-settlement and registry system of the Central Depository. Volksbank Romania has also acquired the capacity of custodian agent, according to a press release from the Central Depository.
With the newest additions, the number of institutions authorized by the Central Depository to act as custodian agents has increased to 13, whereas the number of participants to the RoClear system that do not hold the capacity of custodian agents has increased to 73. The Central Depository"s clearing-settlement system currently comprises 87 participants.
The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE) is the majority shareholder in the Central Depository with 51 percent. Among the minority shareholders are the Romanian - American Enterprise Fund (RAEF) with 1.76 per cent, the five financial investment firms (SIF) and several banks, including Banca Romana pentru Dezvoltare (BRD) - Groupe Societe General, Raiffeisen Bank, BancPost and ATEbank.
The Central Depository has a share capital of 21.8 million RON, divided into 217.9 million shares with a face value of 0.1 RON.
