Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Romania and Central & Eastern Europe, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus to procure an additional 50 aircraft of the type A320 deliverable between 2014 and 2017, thus increasing the existing order to 132 aircraft. All the ordered aircraft will be configured for one class and 180 seats. The engine model has not been chosen yet.

The new order for Airbus A320 will enable Wizz Air to develop their network currently structured on 11 operational bases in Poland, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Ukraine and the Czech Republic. The fleet extension will enable the company to significantly increase the total number of routes in the next decade from the existing 130 routes.

"The new order supports our growth plans and our objective to become the preferred airline in Central and Eastern Europe. The new commitment reflects that stability of our company in a difficult market context," said Wizz Air CEO Jozsef Varadi.
