Wrigley Romania concluded 2006 as local market leader on the sweets segment, with a market share of 75%. The company"s turnover increased by 15%, to over 60 de million USD, while sales increased by 19,9% compared to the previous year.
According to AC Nielsen, on the chewing-gum segment, Wrigley had a 94% market share at the end of 2006, with the brands Orbit, Airwaves, Winterfresh and Hubba Bubba and a 31% market share on the overall candy segment with Orbit Drops, Solano, Juicy Fruit and Winterfresh Mints.
As far as brand development is concerned, Orbit was a market leader in 2006 with a market share of 70% in the chewing-gum segment.
The company"s progress was more significant on the candy segment. In 2006, Wrigley launched two new brands: Juicy Fruit (including Juicy Fruit Drops, Juicy Fruit Chewy Candy and Juicy Fruit Jellies) and Winterfresh Mints.
Estimated at over 380 million RON, the Romanian sweets market - except the chocolate and biscuits segments - has been growing constantly in the past few years. Given this ascending trend, Wrigley estimates a growth rate of 15-20%.
