Mobile telecom operator Telemobil - Zapp has selected Chinese-based ZTE Corporation as its partner and supplier for the expansion of its current 450MHz network and the rollout of the 2100MHz network.
ZTE has been chosen over other potential vendors due to the fact that its solutions deliver the most cost-effective benefits, quality, and functionality. This will lead to higher operational and technological efficiency and will result in cost reduction, while still providing customers with the most advanced 3G services, a Telemobil press release indicates.
Zapp is well advanced in its preparations for the 2100MHz network launch, and the signing of this contract will start immediately the deployment of the network. The first services of this type from Zapp will be launched in Romania, in 19 major cities, by end of June 2008, although the target is to have them available before this date.
Telemobil SA, a subsidiary of Zapp International (Holdings) Limited, provides wireless voice and data services in Romania under the trade name ZAPP, and is owned by Saudi Oger Limited. Saudi Oger Ltd. is also the majority shareholder of Oger Telecom, a leading telecom operator in developing markets.
