• 228 million for the "Cash for clunkers" program
The Romanian government yesterday approved the budget for the Administration of the Environment (AFM) for the year 2010. The state budget has earmarked 1,889,884,000 lei for the projects that the AFM has planned for 2010.
Projects financed by the AFM are aimed at reducing the impact on the atmosphere, water and soil, waste management, the protection of water resources and the preservation of biodiversity. The AFM will also finance projects for improving the quality of the environment by building urban green areas, by increasing the production of renewable energy, restocking the existing forests, as well as raising public awareness on environmental protection.
AFM has 228 million lei available for the renewal of the Romanian car fleet, with the "Cash for Clunkers" programs scheduled to begin on February 20th. "This year, the program will feature some changes, such as the introduction of the voucher of 3,800 RON, the applicability of the program to legal persons as well as the fact that an individual can use up to three vouchers for the purchase of a new car. Also this year, the program will only have one phase, and the cap for companies has been set at EUR 200,000", said the Minister of the Environment and Forests, László Borbély.
