Bringing students closer to reading is an approach that must be supported and appreciated. The Mureş County Library has announced the start of the 11th edition of the "Battle of the Books" reading contest, addressed to children and teenagers, after which the "Book of the Year" will be designated, based on the pleas of the readers, and the "Reader of the Year" will be determined. . According to the organizers: "At the end of March, the Mureş County Library started the 11th edition of the "Battle of the Books" reading competition. It will take place between March and November 2024 and brings something new: the introduction of a new category of age for children, respectively 8-10 years! This novelty comes after the increasingly numerous requests for participation from the youngest readers, for whom the readings proposed in the children's category (11-13 years) were not always suitable. The little competitors will he only had 5 books to read, unlike the older ones for whom the Library prepared 10 titles each".
Each competitor must read all the books in the competition related to his category and prepare a reading portfolio according to the regulations. The participants will vote for their favorite book, and at the end, at the Great Debate, they will convince the entire audience that this deserves to be the book of the year! At the same time, the battle is also being fought for the Reader of the Year, who will be chosen by the jury following the most convincing and well-argued book presentation in the competition. The Director of the Mureş County Library, Monica Avram, stated that this competition will include two sections, Romanian language readers and Hungarian language readers, for each age category, 8-10 years, 11-13 years and 14-18 years, bibliography being selected according to age and spoken language: "According to the rules of the contest, registration for the contest is done at the head office of the Mureş County Library and at the Children's Library in Târgu Mureş, children being able to register for the entire duration of the contest. For to participate, children need an entry permit to the library, and when registering for the contest they receive a reading book, in which they will award points from 1 to 5 for each book read (1 - minimum score, 5 - maximum score) , a reading sheet in which they will note their impressions of the book read and, of course, the list of books included in the contest". The final of the competition will take place in November, and all those who will submit the complete portfolio by the deadline will enter. The finalists will be invited to the library, and the final will include the "Convince me to read!" debate, in which the children will give a free speech about their favorite book.
