Bucharest heating company RADET yesterday informed Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu of the company"s financial status with a particular emphasis on the pile of debts that the utility provider had accumulated since 1995. The sum is a whopping 750 million RON, of which 550 million RON in "historic" debts and 200 million RON in fuel offset debts to the State budget. Mayor Oprescu believes the ongoing crisis of RADET is the product of management incompetence over the years and claims that he will ask Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu for the funds necessary to unblock the situation in a bid to prevent the termination of heating and hot water supply to the city. At the moment, a commission of representatives of all the companies involved (creditors, suppliers etc.) is analyzing the crisis and will present Oprescu with an action plan.
