Apartment rental fees in Bra ov dropped significantly in 2009 over the previous year, sometimes by as much as 50%. Adrian Pop, vice-president of the National Union of Real Estate Agents (UNIM) Braşov, stated the following: "In my opinion, it all depends on the strength of the economy. And given the fact that unemployment is on the rise in Braşov, we expect rental fees to remain unchanged, maybe even drop further". The rental fee for an apartment without any improvements, was EUR 300 - 350/month last year, whereas landlords are only asking for EUR 200/month now. The rent for a studio is now EUR 150, whereas last year it was impossible to find any studios for rent for less than EUR 200/month. According to Mr. Pop, when it comes to retail areas, companies operating in downtown Bra ov have begun renegotiating their rent with their landlords. Even so, Adrian Pop says that many retail areas have been abandoned, most of them being located in area II, namely Toamnei Street or 15 Noiembrie Boulevard.
