Intesa SanPaolo SpA, the consultant selected by the Italian Government for the privatization of Alitalia SpA, is recommending Deutsche Lufthansa AG as partner for the unprofitable airline, according to Il Sole 24 Ore. The Italian newspaper further indicates that Lufthansa will be officially contacted in this respect in mid-August. The Italian Government gave Intesa two months starting in June to come up with a solution to prevent Alitalia from going bankrupt. Intesa opted for an alliance with Lufthansa, rather than with Air France - KLM Group, the largest airline in Europe.
